I am not a racist, but apparently I am a bigot

contrary to what i was accused of earlier, I am not a racist. I looked for a defintion of a word to fit what I am and I am, evidently, a bigot. Definition: one who regards (...) the members of a group with hatred and intolerance. here are the groups I am bigotted towards: People who...

  • Use racism or resort to name calling to hide the lack of understanding, logic or facts
  • Don’t act toward other with a basic level of respect and common decency
  • Blame others for things which they are responsible
  • Cant own up to the fact that they made a mistake
  • Take no responsibility for their actions
  • Are so self involved that they are unaware or uncaring about the people around them
  • Don’t utilize the basic grammar and language skills that an education provides
  • Perpetuate their ignorance, disrespect and lack of responsibility by passing it on to their children
  • Believe that they are better than others and that others are just there to serve them
  • Don’t use the words “please” and “thank you” with everyone they encounter
  • Believe they are owed something for which they didn't work

Daily Rants

Welcome to Daily Rants!

This will be my outlet for everything that pisses me off on a daily basis. I work in a retail setting for a major cellphone carrier. I do love my work but it is almost daily that I have to deal with someone who falls under one or more of many different categories.

Bear in mind as you read these that these types of customers exist in all retail settings. Be honest with yourself, are you one of these people? Better check yourself lest you wind up with a cellphone logged in your ass one day.

They start as follows: (i will add to this list as i come across them)

  1. entitlement issues - "i have been with you for ## years, i want (phone/ accessory/ other for free/better discount than normal)" GIVE me a freaking break! I dont go to Walmart and say "i have been buying my groceries here for 10 years, can i have my milk and bread for free?" BTW mr./mrs. customer, where do you work? can i come there and have you give me free stuff? what? you would get in trouble for that? well guess what.....
  2. Disrespectful/pissed off preschoolers - these people seem to think that if they come in acting all big and bad and yelling and cursing and wanting a manager that they will get their way. well FYI.... this is the quickest way to loose the cooperation of most any retail associate in the business. yes, you may get what you want accomplished, but it will hurt a lot more. Next time you have an issue that needs my attention, try this... DON'T BE A DICK.... Like Patrick Swayze says, BE NICE. start of with something like "Hi! i have a problem with ___- and i was hoping you could help me." rather than "DAMMIT THIS ISN'T RIGHT AND YOU'RE GOING TO FIX IT, NOW!" maybe i will, maybe i wont.....asshole. i'm not your fricking slave, so don't talk to me that way. BTW - if you are going to be a dick, make sure you are in the right store. you have no idea how many people go into a cellular store and tear into the rep behind the counter only to be told that this store is ABC carrier and your phone is from XYZ carrier. BIG SIGNS ON THE BUILDING, THE DECOR OF THE STORE AND THE REPS SHIRT. really, stop, breath, check the logo on your FREAKING PHONE, and then BE NICE. dumb ass. Dont believe me? www.howardforums.com and search for the word "stupid" and spend the next 5 hours laughing your ass off.
  3. River Rats/Liars (denial - get it?) - "I didn't do that!" I didn't go over my minutes, I didn't use the internet, i didn't call 411, i didn't get my phone wet. YES YOU DID. let me explain. The likelihood of you having a billing error that results in any of these is less than you winning the lottery, dating Eva Longoria and getting struck by lightning. it just doesnt happen that often, get it? yes, billing errors occur but they do not posses your phone and make you call 411 fifty times in a month. BTW - you telling me you wont pay the bill is only hurting you and your credit, not me i couldn't really care less. also, if i tell you your phone got wet, IT DID, accept it and dont lie to me. if you lie to me im not going to help you, period. it takes a special kind of moron to tell me you didnt get your phone wet when i take the battery out and shake the water out of it. also, dont hand me your phone if you DROPPED IT IN THE TOILET! really, what kind of person does this? THINK! i dont want to touch your pee water phone. even if you had already flushed, STILL DISGUSTING - DOUCHE BAG!
  4. Liars - Part 2 - the "they didn't tell me that" syndrome - this one is short, yes they did. cell phones and contracts and fees and all this stuff has been around for 15 years now. let me break it down. yes, if you got a new phone, you signed a 2 year contract. (unless you paid $400 for it) yes if you break the contract you will pay a large fee $150-200. yes, there are activation/upgrade fees, always have been, there may have been a promo that waived it, but it has always been there. yes, your phone may drop a call once in awhile, no cellphone is perfect.
  5. Warranty vs. Insurance - your phone comes with a 1 year warranty from the manufacturer, not the carrier. Motorola, Nokia, Samsung etc. they make the phones and provide the warranty. At&t, Verizon, Sprint etc. are the carriers that provide the service. look at it this way, the phone is like your car and the gas is your carrier. makes the car go vroom vroom. if you have a problem with the car do you go yell at the guy behind the counter at Kum and Go? didn't think so. However, your carrier is nice enough to help support the manufacturer by facilitating the replacement of your phone under warranty. BTW you will get a refurbished phone. accept it. read your warranty. read the warranty of all your other electronic devices. they all have a provision stating they can replace with refurbished product. again with the car analogies. if your car breaks down under warranty they fix it, they don't give you a new car. (yea i know, they also don't give you someone else's car, but hey, do you want to wait 3 months for your phone to come back? 3 billion cell phone users in the world, just a handful of manufacturers, you do the math) warranty covers manufacturer defects that are , pay attention here, NOT DUE TO PHYSICAL DAMAGE. this includes liquid damage. If you dropped your phone and it stopped working, thats physical damage. if you got your phone wet, thats physical damage. warranty will not cover it. again with the car analogies, if you hit something with your car, would you take it to the dealer and ask them to fix it under warranty. Insurance. insurance is a pay me now or pay me later thing. if you dont have insurance and one of the above happens, expect you will pay full retail price for a phone if you are in the middle of your contract. again, 15 years, you should know this by now. if you do have insurance and you need to replace your phone there is a deductible, usually $50. its insurance, you have it on your car, your house and for your health. there are deductibles and copays on all of them, why would you think your phone insurance is any different? BTW expect a refurbished phone. see above analogies.
this is kind of therapeutic but enough for now. I am sure i will have more to add later, just cant think of them right now.

if there is anything anyone takes from this please let it be the following: Be nice to retail people. you are no better than us, just different, so stop acting like it.
